RALEIGH, N.C. — After a couple days of wintry temperatures, the weekend will feel like fall again.

Friday morning was chilly, with temperatures in the 30s, but highs will warm into the mid 60s. Saturday and Sunday will also be warmer, with temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The weekend will be mostly clear and sunny, making it a great time to get outdoors. Skies may be partly cloudy Sunday afternoon, but there is little chance of rain. The overnight lows say in the mid-40s to about 50 degrees.

The new work week will be cooler, but still mild, with highs in the low to mid 60s.

Warming trend ahead

According to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, the next chance for rain is Monday, although many communities will stay dry.

More rain coverage is expected on Wednesday, and while some models have rain moving out for Thanksgiving, others have a few showers possible. Temperatures around Thanksgiving next week look unseasonably warm, with highs in the mid to upper 60s.

7-Day Forecast

Over time, the date of first frost for the Triangle has been later and later in the season, WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said. In recent years, the first frost has come between Oct. 21 and 31. This year, it's about 12 days later.

That means additional allergy days and a longer growing season, Sheerwood said. Since 1975, the growing season across the United States has gotten about 10 days longer on average.

"As we get a longer growing season, we could potentially see a reduction in the quality and quantity of crops," Sheerwood said.
