CHARLOTTE, N.C. — U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for vice president, will return to North Carolina on Wednesday, almost a week after she had to cancel a visit because some of her staffers tested positive for coronavirus.

Harris will be in Asheville and Charlotte, the two cities she was supposed to visit last Thursday for get-out-the-vote events on the first day of early voting in North Carolina. Details of her rescheduled visits haven't been announced.

Harris herself had repeatedly tested negative for the virus, but she was pulled off the campaign trail from Thursday through Sunday out of an abundance of caution.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden visited Durham on Sunday, where he spoke to a crowd at Riverside High School and encouraged them to vote early.

Both presidential campaigns are putting a hard sell on North Carolina with only a couple of weeks to go until Election Day.

President Donald Trump was in Greenville last Thursday and will hold a rally Wednesday in Gastonia. Vice President Mike Pence was in Selma last Friday.
A WRAL News poll released last week showed Biden with a five-point lead over Trump in North Carolina, 50-45 percent.

Other campaign-related events this week include the following:

  • U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue was in Raleigh Monday morning to discuss Trump's support for farmers and in Fayetteville Monday afternoon to focus on the president's work on behalf of senior citizens.
  • A drive-in rally for Biden was held Monday afternoon at Capital Drive-in in Wake Forest, featuring 4th District Congressman David Price and some state and local officials, will focus on Biden's proposed middle-class tax cuts.
  • Donald Trump Jr. held events in Arden and Kernersville on Monday.
  • Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter, was in Wake County on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, made stops in Wilmington and Greenville on Tuesday.
  • Seema Verma, who heads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, will speak at a noon event Wednesday in Raleigh that targets senior citizens.
  • Eric Trump, the president's second son, will speak to evangelicals at RFA Church in Raleigh on Friday afternoon.
