They say its always good to save the best for last. So when a 97-year-old woman realized she'd been to every state, except Rhode Island, it was time to make one more trip. And was certainly one to remember. 

While the ocean state is a popular place for people to visit, especially in the summer months, 97 year old Helen Raines. And her friend John Ross recently made it, their mission to travel from their state of South Carolina to Rhode Island. Jan recently learned her longtime friend had been to all 49 other states. I said Helen, you know, pass on without getting that last one in. So let's try and do it for christmas. That was a christmas present. And so time wouldn't fly by without her seeing the smallest state, the pair hopped aboard a plane and headed for providence for an overnight stay at the renaissance hotel was just what the doctor ordered. We drank a little and we ate and slept a little. But when the ladies were treated to a tour at the capitol. Well that was something so sentimental and that was the highlight. It was really unbelievable. I couldn't begin to describe it to anyone and they were just very, very conciliatory, truly, the most gracious group of employees I've ever run across. They were delightful welcomed with a citation from Governor dan Mckee. These southern belles learned a lot about southern New England. Don't, don't call people and everybody was very, very nice within 24 hours. A dream destined hundreds of miles away was made true. I mean I was just happy that I was able to do it and while the best of her bucket list is complete. Helen says while it may be the smallest state it left. The biggest impression, you know, the expression, you know, best relaxed. That's how I feel about.

Getting on the bus in the morning is now a lot more enjoyable for a Rhode Island boy who uses a wheelchair to get around. When a high school class heard he would sit out in the rain, cold and wind while waiting for the bus -- it got the wheels in their heads spinning.

for the past few weeks when five year old rider gets ready to head to school. A beautifully built bus hut. It's become his fort. It's a little writer's little man cave is where he waits to get picked up with Ryder being in a wheelchair. Unfortunately, it's about 75 ft from the door to the bus. He's not the typical child that can just run out when the bus comes initially a patio umbrella was used to keep him dry, but with the winter weather approaching, his family asked for help to get him something more suitable. So we actually put a post out on facebook just looking for friends that maybe knew somebody that had one that we're no longer using when word got over to Westerly high school. I think my first emails. Absolutely. We're in dan McKenna's construction class. The construction class at Westerly is the best class at Westerly went to work to prove that. True. I think it's very important for my students learn not only the aspects of just construction but of being involved in the community. Mason healed, took the reins, making it his senior project because it's not just a shed, it's kind of, I'm helping out somebody. He drew blueprints approved by the family and made everything ada accessible riders. Older brother is also in the class. We all worked really closely together and we all Communicated pretty well. Home Depot, donated $300 worth of wood and the killings purchased $600 Mr. McKenna's construction class donated countless hours of their time. They all work together for a common goal and they really enjoy that because they know the end result, they know where it's going. It definitely made it extra special. It was pretty cool to do something like that. A former construction student volunteered to drop it off and now getting picked up is something writer looks forward to. They're incredible. I mean, they've come come forward a couple times for Ryder. Ryder hasn't yet met the class that rallied around him, but they plan to in the future that one photo that the family sent me made it all worth it and I shared that with the students and what they've built goes beyond the classroom. I just want to thank them very much. This is a great thing they did for writer and it'll be here for years to come showing you something good. I'm sam reed.

It's terrible, you know, in these trying times, somebody's trying to sell eggs. Makes a little bit of money. Devlin didn't think twice about offering up her extra mini fridge. I'd help anybody out. Once out of work, she dropped off her donation. What goes around comes around. I give things away all the time. I'm gonna give her. That was really wonderful and generous of her. And we appreciate her. Another man did the same. We didn't expect it was wonderful. And dozens have said they'd stop by to purchase a dozen. Sharing rides with coworkers during the pandemic can be risky. 

Normally, it's a great way to save gas time and money. But carpooling toe work during the pandemic can be risky. You need to wear a mask the whole time. That means making sure you have your mask on before you get into the car. Joseph When Delk, in with the Department of Health, says not everyone is masking ups, you shouldn't have to wear masks with folks in your own household, right? Yeah, thank you, Thank you. That's a good clarification. So what we're really talking about here are people who are car pulling together to work. State health leaders say Rhode Island is already seeing clusters of covert 19 cases tied to carpools, so it's important to stick with the same group. If people are going to be carpooling it, it's really important that there's some consistency there. You want to be doing that with same people. Also important. Keep the windows open whenever possible and stay home. If you feel even a little bit sick, you want to make sure that you're doing a symptom check before you get into the car. Everyone should be doing this if they're heading into a workplace to make sure that you're not experiencing any of those symptoms,

Tree-trimming crew honors their biggest fan, a 5-year-old who's spent days watching their work.

For months, Chris Perry and Joshua Spencer have been the dynamic duo, so we have a routine down thes tree. Trimmers spend their day removing unwanted limbs near power lines. I'm the one that's always in the bucket. A few weeks ago, they brought some much welcome joy to a Johnson boy and his grandfather has never seen in my whole life people cutting down trees. Five year old Parker Martin and his Pops spent ah hot, humid summer afternoon watching the men work. Every time I branch came down, we cheered for we thought, Oh, yeah, that's great. Parker was paralyzed with amazement. They did have big chain shot. Josh and Chris could see how thrilled the boy was. Toe watch them work. He was just ecstatic. Very seldom will you actually see people sit and watch. Parker took things a step further. I write it them a card, and I put it on a tree branch, thanking his new friends for a job well done. Not too many people will come out and thank us. What happened next meant the most to the Martins. The day after the guy said to me, Hey, uh, we have something for your grandson and I said, You gotta be kidding. Totally unexpected on their lunch break with a hard hat in hand, safety goggles and earplugs, Parker, whose namesake is from Spiderman, turned into an honorary tree trimmer that was washing. It made a five year Olds Day and memory he'll never forget. For the next week, Parker waited and watched for them, a reminder they, too, are appreciated. And there's no job too small as much as an impression that we left on him. Just by doing this, he left just a equal, if not greater impression on us, Parker says. Besides filling the shoes of Spider Man when he's older, he'd also love to be a tree trimmer, reporting for NBC 10 News. I'm Sam Reed.

Rhode Island man's backyard feeders have become a regular meeting spot for an unlikely pair of friends.

in a wooded area of Kingston. Lots of animals call Homestead Circle home. You know, feed the birds, I said. Why not feed other other animals and stuff like that? Water loops loves nature. That's actually pretty cool toe watch. So next to his own picking table, he brought a miniature one for his furry, frequent visitors, primarily squirrels and chipmunks. And they wait and want to come out there literally five minutes later. Liel. They're all common. They're all coming on the deck. They're all coming in and out of the picking table when they were coming. Ah, and on the bird feeds. A few weeks ago, he witnessed a beautiful breakfast state. Never seen it before. I've never seen anything like that before. First came the squirrel, and then the ground hung that's been living under his porch. They tried to settle down, and they started eating together. The pair seemed to enjoy each other's company. They're there for about 30 minutes. It was a while. They've now made it part of their regular morning routine. I thought it was great that they were together and they were able to get together, and I thought I was just a really cool thing for animals. To do that you don't really see often with the ground off. Ronald takes pictures and post them on social media, but doesn't dare mess with their meal. Everybody should be should see, and everybody should get a smile off, He hopes by sharing the positive interactions of carefree creatures, humans will follow suit. For several days, Tony Chandler of Wild Child Flowers and Gardens has been setting up shop on the sidewalk. It's a little bit crazy, but they're all from my garden or from long for garden Done. Typically, she'd be picking the peonies and designing bouquets for dozens of weddings. But now, because of Kuvin, there slim pickings when it comes to wedding. She'll work well this summer, probably five or six to keep her flowers and business flourishing. She Bunches the bouquets every day inside of the kayak center. A friend lets her use it. Since word got out about her papa peonies, business has been blooming, selling out just about every day. Flowers are fabulous, but they're even more fabulous when they're on your table. So I'm trying to make that possible on affordable, too, because this is way less than you would be paying in a retail store, which I probably shouldn't be saying. But I just did. Tony doesn't stay at the stand. She's busy tending to her actual garden at just $15 of Okay, everything is on your honor because people are honorable on.
