Congratulations to Rex Healthcare, which was named a "breastfeeding-friendly business" by the N.C. Breastfeeding Coalition.

The group recognized Rex's efforts to support breastfeeding among its patients and employees.

“It is our goal at Rex to promote, maintain and support the best health outcomes for all of our patients,” said Susan O’Dell, director of the Rex Women’s Center, in a press release. “For babies in the first year of life, the best food is breast milk. We have worked hard to assure support around the clock for new mothers who want to breastfeed as well as for our co-workers returning to work who are breastfeeding. This award is great recognition of that hard work.”

The breastfeeding coalition celebrates businesses that have made accommodations for breastfeeding mothers, including providing access to private rooms for breastfeeding and education about economic and health benefits. These efforts can help reduce health care costs and turnover and improve productivity and morale, according to the coalition.

Rex also offers a variety of resources for new moms, including breastfeeding classes, free telephone help for those with breastfeeding questions, a team of lactation consultants and more.

In my early months of nursing both of my girls, I have found Rex's Lactation Station extremely helpful. The shop offers supplies and lots of great information. It's open 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.
