Reward offered in slaying of Rocky Mount store owner

A $2,500 reward has been offered for information that solves the slaying of a Rocky Mount store owner earlier in March.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A $2,500 reward has been offered for information that solves the slaying of a Rocky Mount store owner earlier in March.

Rafiq Salim "Sammy" Soufan, 47, was found lying in the doorway of Sammy's Food Mart, at 1100 Old Wilson Road, around 12:45 a.m. on March 7, police said.

Authorities are looking for two or three people who are possibly driving a four-door, older model, gray Toyota Camry or a black or gray Chevrolet Caprice with three hubcaps and one black steel rim.

Customers said that Soufan was a pillar of the community who went out of his way to get to know and to help the people who came to his store.
