— A $2,500 reward has been offered for information that solves the slaying of a Rocky Mount store owner earlier in March.

Rafiq Salim "Sammy" Soufan, 47, was found lying in the doorway of Sammy's Food Mart, at 1100 Old Wilson Road, around 12:45 a.m. on March 7, police said.

Authorities are looking for two or three people who are possibly driving a four-door, older model, gray Toyota Camry or a black or gray Chevrolet Caprice with three hubcaps and one black steel rim.

Customers said that Soufan was a pillar of the community who went out of his way to get to know and to help the people who came to his store.

Anyone with information about his slaying is asked to contact Twin County Crime Stoppers at 977-1111 or crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov. They can also contact Detective Robert Rothrock at 252-972-1465 or Robert.Rothrock@rockymountnc.gov or Sgt. Thomas Seighman at 252-972-1464 or Thomas.Seighman@ockymountnc.gov.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
