RALEIGH, N.C. — A small fire in a Raleigh restaurant caused no injuries and little damage Wednesday afternoon but tied up traffic on Hillsborough Street for about 45 minutes during the rush hour.

The fire broke out on the third floor of The Farmhouse, at 3011 Hillsborough St., at about 5 p.m., when someone turned on an exhaust fan in a restroom and the fan short-circuited, Raleigh Fire Department Battalion Chief S.A. Richards said.

The manager and some customers used a fire extinguisher to quickly put out the fire, which left plenty of smoke in the building, Richards said.

Four fire trucks responded to the incident, blocking off part of Hillsborough Street until almost 6 p.m.
