RALEIGH, N.C. — Some drivers and business owners in Raleigh blame a poor drainage system for flooding near Union Station on South West Street.

A car got stuck in about 4 feet of water near the station on Thursday when storms dumped heavy rain on the area.

A spokesperson for the City of Raleigh said officials expect the floods to continue when high-intensity rainfall occurs, but that they are working to figure out a solution.

"That's really troubling, especially with all the pop up storms we get," said Winn Decker.

Decker spends a lot of time near West Street offering city tours on trikes.

"Anytime I visit Raleigh Union Station, I park in the parking deck or something and walk down there," he said.

Floodwaters from Thursday's storms lasted less than an hour before fully receding.

As additional improvements are made to the downstream drainage system with the West Street extension project in the next several years, stormwater management crews expect the issue to be resolved.
