RALEIGH, N.C. — Some residents at an apartment complex in Raleigh say they've been left in the dark, literally, about why the power has been out there for nearly three weeks.

For weeks, some residents at the Oberlin Court Apartments have been without electricity. According to the residents, the problem is centered around a transformer at the complex that the landlord has yet to fix.

Just days before Hurricane Dorian would hit North Carolina's coast, it happened. Dozens of tenants at Oberlin Court Apartments lost power.

It did not come back on Aug. 29, the 30th or the 31st. Now, 20 days later, a resident whom WRAL News will call "John" is still waiting like others.

"What is annoying they say it will be back on by the 16th, by the 20th, by the 30th … it keeps getting delayed," John said. "We keep trying to secure these accommodations. They keep pulling the rug out from us. There is no answer."

Residents say it has nothing to do with Duke Energy. Instead, they are pointing a finger at the complex. Since the outage, John has hopped around to find places to stay. One day it's the a friend's couch, another day it's a hotel, then it's back to crashing at a friend's again.

"My car, I have a pillow, blanket ... I have been living out of a suitcase," John said. "There is no normalcy that we are able to deal with right now. "

Wednesday night, we received a statement from the apartment complex about the situation:

"We recognize and share in the concerns of our residents," the complex said. "We have been working diligently to remediate the situation and have been keeping our residents informed. As background, there was a failure to the main breaker in the building that has caused a power outage to a portion of apartments. Due to the complexity of the issue and the custom fabrication of the electrical components, it is taking longer to complete the needed repairs than originally anticipated. We expect that power will be restored next week and we are working to secure a block of hotel rooms for the affected residents to stay in until the situation is fully resolved. Additionally, residents will be receiving a rent credit for the days they were without power and will be reimbursed for any hotel expenses to date."
