Report: Violent crime up in Durham

Durham police saw an uptick in crime in the first half of 2010. Statistics released Monday evening show violent crime was up 4 percent from the same period last year and property crime increased by 7 percent.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police saw an uptick in crime in the first half of 2010.

Statistics released Monday evening show violent crime – homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault  – rose by 4 percent from the same period last year.

Property crime – burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft – increased by 7 percent.
