Recipe: Warm up by making these baked apples

Flour Power Kids Cooking Studio, which has programs for kids to teens across the Triangle and country, offers up this yummy recipe for baked apples, a perfect way to warm up on these cold days ahead. You can see how it's done in the video featuring Chef Lila and Chef Hannah from Flour Power above!

Baked Apples

1 teaspoon butter, melted
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3 teaspoons sugar
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
6 large apples – cored and hollowed (leave bottoms intact)
½ cup oats
3 1/2 tablespoons water
Optional: Vanilla ice cream

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a large baking dish.

2. Mix brown sugar, melted butter, sugar, oats and cinnamon in a small bowl. Fill the apples with the mixture.

3. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Pour water over apples and continue baking until tender, about 10 minutes more.

4. Top with ice cream if desired!
