Posted — UpdatedWe've had some decent rain over the last week or so, but it was not enough to help with the drought across parts of North Carolina. In fact, eastern and southeastern parts of North Carolina are now under a moderate drought.
Central North Carolina remains in the "abnormally dry" category. May has delivered some much-needed rain across North Carolina, but when looking at the totals for spring as a whole, we are still behind. In Raleigh, we are behind by more than 4 inches. Fayetteville is behind by more than 2 inches.
Rain chances remain pretty low as we edge closer to the weekend and into next week – just a 20-30% chance on some days.
The Climate Prediction Center is also predicting a below-normal rainfall pattern through the end of May. Drought monitors are released every Thursday. Stay tuned to WRAL for the latest on the drought situation across North Carolina.
