BURLINGTON, N.C. — Dozens of parents in Alamance County were scrambling for summer camp options after a fire early Tuesday.

A blaze caused severe damage to the Pleasant Grove Recreational Center at 3598 N.C. Highway 49.

A firefighter who happened to be driving by spotted the fire, possibly saving the building, officials said.

Ray Williams, the center's manager, said they will look for other buildings in which to hold summer camp, but he could not guarantee they would find the space.

Summer camp programs were scheduled to start Monday at the Pleasant Grove center.
