Beech Mountain, about four hours from Raleigh in the North Carolina mountains, has lined up special deals and activities for families in June.

Family Fun Month includes a 30-day lineup of outdoor adventures, concerts, picnics, movies under the stars and a fireworks finale. And if you're hoping to escape the summer heat - Beech Mountain might be the place to go. At an elevation of 5,506 feet, you'll typically find not-so-sweltering temperatures and low humidity.

Many of the special activities include guided recreation programs at Buckeye Recreation Center, including mountain biking, a hike with a naturalist and trout fishing programs. Several properties also are offering Family Month lodging specials, including three nights for the price of two.

“These activities provide families an opportunity to connect and bond with each other, which is important for everyone to do but particularly for families,” says Kate Gavenus, tourism director for the town of Beech Mountain, in a press release. “Some vacations can be so busy, but spending time in the mountains hiking, fishing and canoeing allows you time to relax.”

In fact, it sounded so nice, my own family just booked a few days out there in June to take advantage of the fun.

Beech Mountain's website has more information about the deals and activities. It's not far from other popular mountain spots, including Blowing Rock, Boone, Tweetsie Railroad and Grandfather Mountain.
