A new round of StoryWalks are up at parks across the area this month. These walkable picture book trails, where the laminated pages of a book are posted along a trail or walkway, are a fun way to get out and about. They're perfect for toddlers, preschoolers and early readers.

Here's where you can find a StoryWalk in March:

StoryWalk at Historic Oak View County Park

In March, Oak View will feature “Mary Wears What She Wants” by Keith Negley, as a celebration for Women’s History Month. The book is inspired by an actual historical figure, Mary Edwards Walker, a trailblazing 19th-century doctor who was arrested simply for wearing pants.

StoryWalk at Blue Jay Point County Park

The park will feature "On a Magical Do-Nothing Day" by Beatrice Alegmagna. On the back of each storybook page, you'll find some suggested activities at home.

Triangle Land Conservancy Preserves

The nonprofit's StoryWalks for February will continue into March as rainy weather limited the days when the preserves were open last month. "Counting is for the Birds" by Frank Mazzola is featured at Horton Grove Nature Preserve. "Ruby’s Birds" by Mya Thompson is at the Bailey and Sarah Williamson Preserve.

Harris Lake County Park

From Saturday, March 13 through Wednesday, March 31, the park in southwestern Wake County will feature "Over and Under the Pond," written by Kate Messner with art by Christopher Silas Neal. This month's walk can be found starting near the park's Cypress Pond. According to the park, an interactive activity can be found at the bottom of each set of pages to engage kids as they read the story.

Crowder County Park

From March 5 to March 28, the Wake County park in Apex will feature "A Perfect Day" by Lane Smith. The book will be located on the Outer Loop Trail, beginning at the park's Bird Garden, which is immediately on the left as you enter the park and across from the park's office, according to the park. The hike is about 0.8 miles.

Joyner Park

And Joyner Park at 701 Harris Rd. in Wake Forest has launched StoryWalk in the Park. Pages from “Brave Enough for Two” by local author Jonathan Voss will be displayed on posts along the trail that runs through Joyner Park’s pecan grove, according to the town.
