RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh-Durham International Airport officials temporarily closed a runway Friday morning after a small plane's wheel caught fire during take-off.

The Beechcraft 400A plane never got up in the air, and fire crews put out the flames, said RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin.

Four people on-board the plane got off safely, officials said.

The fire happened on the runway closest to Terminal 1, Hamlin said. The runway was expected to be cleared by noon.
