MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Five flights to Raleigh-Durham International Airport were diverted early Thursday morning after a malfunction on an American Airlines flight forced passengers to get off the aircraft while on the runway.

An American Airlines official said an onboard indicator light went out, which forced it to stay on the runway. Flight 3356 from Dallas was carrying 10 passengers and three crew members to RDU.

Passengers got off the plane once it landed and were taken to the terminal by a bus.

No one was injured.

RDU officials said the landing caused five other flights to be diverted: two Delta flight and a private aircraft diverted to Greensboro, a JetBlue flight diverted to Richmond and a Southwest flight diverted to Charlotte.

Normal airport operations resumed around 2 a.m.

[Correction: A previous version of this story reported that the American Airlines flight was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, but it was actually en route to RDU. Five other flights were diverted as passengers got off the plane on the runway.]
