RDU Airport parking garage reopens after report of carjacking
The Raleigh-Durham International Airport's parking garage shut down Tuesday for an emergency situation, according to airport police.
Posted — UpdatedAirport police said they were called to the reported carjacking around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. No one was injured, according to police.
The parking garage was shut down while heavily armed officers conducted a floor-by-floor search of the building.
Travelers were asked to stay inside the terminals while law enforcement searched the parking garage. Over 100 people were stranded in and around the terminals on Tuesday night as the search was underway.
Airport guests said the situation caused confusion and concern for people inside and outside of the building.
Around 7 p.m. RDU Airport officials said guests were able to return to their vehicles.
No suspects were located or detained by law enforcement, according to officials.
The economy lot at RDU Airport was still available for parking while the parking garage was shut down.
A spokeswoman for RDU Airport said, "law enforcement has monitored activity in the parking decks fo years through patrols and the use of technology."
Multiple emergency call boxes are placed throughout the parking decks, and cameras are clearly visible all along the terminal buildings.
