JC Raulston Arboretum, which launched its children's programming earlier this year, has two activities planned for September.

Natural Wrappers: From Tiny Seeds to Giant Trees is designed for families to do together. It's from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 for ages 5 and up. The fee is $10 per family for arboretum members and $15 per family for the general public.

Here's the description: All summer, plants have been pushing out flowers and hoping for pollination, in order to form the seeds that will become new, young plants. Come hunt for seeds of both the smallest plants and the biggest trees in the arboretum. Detective skills wanted as seeds hide in some mysterious containers.

And Superhero Plants is from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Sept. 30, a teacher workday for Wake County students on the traditional calendar. It's designed for kids 5 to 9. The fee is $12 per child for arboretum members or $16 per child for the general public. Adults are welcome to drop their child off or stay for the program. Participants should bring a peanut-free snack and a water bottle.

Here's a description: The JC Raulston Arboretum is full of superheroes: plants that use defenses, disguises and special powers to adapt to their environment. Come learn how plants survive attacks from predators and the harsh conditions of life outdoors.

Pre-registration and payment is required for both. Call 919-513-7007. Both programs will be held rain or shine. The arboretum, a great place to take kids any day, is on Beryl Road near N.C. State University.
