Local performers the Real Laww and Toon are trying to help the victims of domestic violence with a special fundraiser Friday night at the Wheels Family Fun Center in Durham.

Proceeds from "Skate Away the Hate" will go to victims at the Durham Rescue Mission.

Laww said they hope to raise $4,000 during the event, which has a special meaning for them.

"Toon, aka Kurrell Rice, my business partner and performer was a victim of domestic violence himself along with his mother," Laww said. "This is why this event is near and dear to our hearts."

The event starts at 10 p.m. and it is a BYOB. You can RSVP on the Skate Away the Hate Facebook page.
