RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh woman is accused of lying to get a controlled anxiety medication without a prescription, officials said on Thursday.

In March, the Pitt County Sheriff's office received a report of prescription fraud from a healthcare provider. The healthcare provider told deputies that the woman called in a prescription for Alprazolam, a schedule IV controlled drug, without permission from her doctor.

A month after the healthcare provider reported the fraud to the sheriff's office, the woman tried again to get the anti-anxiety medication.

After an investigation, Crissie Clark Woolard, 42, was charged with two counts of obtaining controlled substance by fraud or forgery. She also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for a traffic offense in 2018.

She turned herself into authorities on July 1.

Woolard posted bond and was released pending trial.
