RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh leaders want to know what the community is looking for in the city's next police chief.
A survey on the city's website wants to know what citizens see as the challenges facing the city. City leaders also want to know what skills a police chief should have and what two questions Raleigh residents would ask in the interview.

The deadline to respond is Oct. 11.

After five years as Raleigh's police chief, Harry Dolan is retiring at the end of the month.

He took over in September 2007 from former police Chief Jane Perlov, who left for a job in Charlotte.

Dolan has not said what he plans to do.

Deputy Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown will serve as interim chief while the department considers a long-term replacement.
