RALEIGH, N.C. — Visitors at a vaccine clinic at Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh had the chance to win a brand-new PlayStation or hundreds of dollars in gift cards on Saturday.

The church was also offering school supplies to anyone who came to get their first dose on Saturday.

Barbers with GQ Cuts set up an outdoor salon station and gave out free haircuts to anyone who got their shot.

Reverend Mark Gibson says the new method seems to have worked, particularly with convincing younger people to get vaccinated.

“The gaming systems are the hottest things out there, so it attracts them, and also word of mouth," he said.

When visitors come to get their second dose on Aug. 28, the church will release the names of the raffle winners.

"What we are asking our young people to do is to share that we want you to stay safe, we want you to have a bright future, and this variant is so deadly," he said.

A online sign-up portal shows that at least 30 people signed up to get their shot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
