Raleigh Teacher Resigns After Being Accused Of Engaging In Sex Act With Student

RALEIGH — A high school English teacher facing a felony charge of having sex with a student has resigned after 18 years with the Wake County school system.

Betty Godwin Mackie, an English teacher at Broughton High School in Raleigh, resigned Friday. Her departure is effective June 4, the last day of the school year for teachers.

Mackie is free on $10,000 bond. She has no criminal record, but could face up to 20 months in prison if convicted on the felony charge.
