RALEIGH, N.C. — Ending bloodshed in Raleigh is a priority for police.

On Tuesday, the Raleigh Police Department laid out their plan to reduce gun violence at a city council meeting.

The strategy calls for results in the next year, but, at the moment, residents say there are not many details on how the police department plans to pull that off.

During her presentation, Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown said she had a strategy to bring gun violence under control and would like to see a 10 percent reduction in the deaths and injuries caused by gun violence by next summer.

"So, literally, we have a year to engage in this effort and see what our differences will be," she said.

The plan includes education and training for officers and enhanced community partnerships. There is also a focus on increasing confidence and transparency in the department.

Deck-Brown also said her officers will use intelligence-led policing.

"A focused patrol in the areas identified where we see aggravated and increased firearms violence," she said.

The plans Deck-Brown shared with city council members were a very high-level overview.

"It's the details that matter and there were no details," said Raleigh resident, Geraldine Alshamy.

Alshamy has been critical of the police department, and said she's heard the same things many times before.

"Everything she said sounded very scripted. It had no meat," she said.

Deck-Brown promises more meat will come Friday, when she says more detail on her strategy to curb gun violence will be released.

"(It) will give a lot more substance to how we are going, and how we will get there," Deck-Brown said.
