RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police are investigating the death of a man found Friday evening at 2700 Westhampton Place, said Jim Sughrue, spokesman for the Raleigh Police Department.

Police found the body, later identified as 48-year-old Jurgen Dietmar Cheston, around 6 p.m. while checking on the welfare of the resident.

Cheston's pickup truck, a dark blue 2001 Ford Ranger, was not at the residence but was located overnight by officers in the 3800 block of Brentwood Road, Sughrue said. The license tag had been removed from the vehicle.

It is not known when the crime occurred; however, Cheston had not been seen by coworkers for approximately one week.

He said that Cheston was known to frequent Hispanic-oriented entertainment venues such as nightclubs, and detectives want to talk with people who knew him in that context.

Police are asking people with information on Cheston to call the department's detective division at 919-996-3555 or Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for tips that help solve crimes.
