RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police were investigating the death of an infant Monday.

According to search warrants released Tuesday, emergency workers responded to a call about an infant not breathing at apartment C at 1010 Tipton St. in Raleigh just after 10:30 a.m. Monday. The 3-month-old child was transported to Wake Medical Center where the infant was pronounced dead.

The woman who called 911 told police that she had left home at 8 a.m. and left her three children - ages 9, 5, and 4 - and a friend's two 3-month-old infants in the care of her boyfriend, according to search warrants. When the woman returned at 10:30 a.m., one of the 3-month-old infants was lying on the master bedroom's bed and was blue, cold and motionless.

Police said the 4-year-old child said that while playing with the infant, the infant fell out of the bed.

Authorities are investigating whether child neglect contributed to the infant's death.
