RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman died after being hit by a car in Raleigh on Friday night at around 11 p.m.

The woman, who has been identified as Jessica Laurel Davis, from Raleigh, was crossing East Millbrook Road. Police say she failed to yield to the right of way to the vehicle traveling.

Officials said the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, where she later died.

The driver, Jose Jaime Moral-Alvarez, from Raleigh, was charged with driving without a license, failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

A witness to the crash heard the car hit the woman from outside of her workplace. She said that she would "never forget" the sound of the car hitting Davis.

The witness said she and her coworkers were attempting to perform life-saving measures on the woman before emergency crews arrived. She said that the driver left the scene after the crash.

An incident report states the driver was not speeding.
