RALEIGH, N.C. — A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a woman after he kidnapped her Wednesday near Crabtree Valley Mall.

The Raleigh Police Department arrested Christopher Joyner, 41, in connection with this incident.

Joyner is accused of threatening the victim with a gun and holding her in "involuntary servitude," according to court documents from a magistrate's order.

Court documents revealed that the woman was sexually assaulted.

Police said in court documents that she had marks on her neck from being strangled.

Court documents stated that the "defendant placed his hands around the victim's neck and choked her to keep her quiet after she started screaming."

Joyner has been charged with the following felonies:

  • First-degree kidnapping
  • Attempted first-degree forcible rape
  • Assault by strangulation
  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Larceny of motor vehicle

He was also charged with a misdemeanor for the possession of stolen goods/property.

On Wednesday, the Raleigh Police Department responded to a report of a woman who was kidnapped.

It was around 3 p.m. when police responded to the 100 block of Turner Street, where a woman said a man kidnapped her.

The woman has been found.

Police said she was taken near Crabtree Valley Mall, and the victim did not know her kidnapper.

Officers and detectives were on the scene collecting evidence and determining the incident's circumstances.

Authorities responded to the 100 block of Turner St., where a woman said an adult male kidnaped her.

"What caught my attention was I saw seven cop cars and an ambulance pull up right there," said Connor Neal, a nearby resident.

Neal, an NC State student, who lives doors down from the scene, said he was caught off guard when he saw the victim crying on her front steps.

A construction worker who was working near the victim's home called 911 after she came up to him crying.

Police said on Wednesday that there was no threat to the community.

This is an ongoing investigation.

"Nothing like that has ever happened that I know of," Neal said. "They seem to be handling it, so I'm not too worried."

Joyner is being held on a $750,000 bond. His first court appearance will be Monday afternoon.
