The city of Raleigh wants to know how it should spend residents’ tax money when it comes to affordable housing.

Officials said they want to add 570 affordable housing units each year for the next 10 years.

To do so, they want taxpayers’ to help rank priorities to help focus on next five years.

Officials said want to know whether they should focus on increasing the supply of affordable housing, where such housing should go and how it impacts those trying to get around with public transportation.

The city says affordable housing is a nationwide challenge, and Raleigh is seeing no different.

“I feel like it’s an opportunity to be reflective on the last five years, see what we’ve done well and maybe not so well, and also look at opportunities for the future affordable housing in transit and how they relate together,” city employee Niki Jones said.

A public forum was held Thursday night, and there will be two more opportunities in October and November.
