Raleigh officer injured avoiding car while helping a disabled vehicle; Driver charged with impaired driving, possession of cocaine

A Raleigh Police officer was nearly hit by a car while helping a disabled vehicle on Friday night.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh Police officer was nearly hit by a car while helping a disabled vehicle on Friday night.

The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m.

Authorities said the officer was on Hammond Road near Rush Street, assisting a driver, when another car rear-ended the officer's police vehicle.

Raleigh police said the driver of the other vehicle was 55-year-old Reginald Rogene Morgan.

Morgan has been charged with Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle, Felony Hit and Run, Driving While Impaired, Careless and Reckless Driving, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The officer was able to get out of the way in time, but was injured in the process and taken to the hospital; The officer was treated and released Saturday afternoon.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
