A Raleigh man is still recovering after a hit-and-run crash two weeks ago as police continue to search for the driver who hit him.

Adam Dolan’s moped was mangled and burned after a crash on Feb. 1 almost took his life.

“It was right before dusk. It wasn’t really dark just yet,” Dolan said.

Dolan said he was returning from doing volunteer work when he pulled onto Hillsborough Street and a car crashed into his moped from behind.

“I’m on top of the hood with the scooter and I said, ‘Oh my God.’ I looked down and all I see is white, like a newer model white car,” he said.

Witness accounts indicate that Dolan and the moped, which caught fire, got stuck under the car. Dolan was dragged nearly 100 feet, police said.

“I pushed the scooter off of me, I guess that let me go from up under the car, and he dragged the scooter the rest of the way is what I heard,” Dolan said.

Raleigh police found the charred moped on Buck Jones Road, about a mile away from where the crash happened. Dolan sustained extensive serious injuries and spent about a week at WakeMed, including time in the intensive care unit.

“I got two places in my pelvis that are broken. It doesn’t let me turn or walk or anything. I got three broken ribs. I had a lot of road rash on my face at the time,” he said.

Dolan said he felt blessed to still be alive after seeing what was left of his moped following the crash.

“I woke up, to my relief, to a crowd of people around me just trying to help me out,” he said. “All I could do was lay there and look up, but I had plenty of people around comforting me at the time that God blessed me with.”

Police describe the vehicle that hit Dolan as a white car that could possibly be a Honda Civic. Authorities believe the car has fire damage.

Anybody with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357.
