HERE TO TALK ABOUT ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND A LONG ROAD AHEAD, THE MAYOR, THANK YOU FOR TALKING WITH US TONIGHT. >> ALWAYS HAPPY TO, DAVID. >> WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SMALL BUSINESS RELIEF. IT IS A GREAT START, PROBABLY COULD USE MORE MONEY BUT IT IS A GOOD START SO TELL US ABOUT IT. >> SO WE HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. FIRST WE HAD TO FIND THE MONEY TO DO THIS AND IDENTIFIED RESOURCES IN OUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICE AND ALSO RESERVES. WE ARE INVESTING $1 MILLION IN FUNDS MANAGED BY THE CAROLINA SMALL BUSINESS CENTER. ONE IS FOCUSED ON SMALL BUSINESSES WITH 49 OR FEWER EMPLOYEES, COMPANIES WHO MADE LESS THAN $2.5 MILLION IN REVENUE THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THEY WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR UP TO A $10,000 GRANT. THE CHECK WILL BE ADMINISTERING A FUND FOR MICRO BUSINESSES. THOSE WITH 14 OR FEWER EMPLOYEES. THE WHOLE IDEA OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO KIND OF TIE OUR SMALL BUSINESS COMMUNITY OVER UNTIL SOME OF THE PPP FUNDING AND SMALL BUSINESS LOANS COME IN. WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THEY CAN MEET THEIR RENT PAYMENTS AND OTHER EXPENSES AND SO THERE IS KIND OF A BRIDGE, A BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE. THESE ARE GRANTS. SO DAVID, OUR GOAL IS SIMPLY TO TRY AND MAKE SURE THAT OUR SMALL BUSINESSES A SURVIVE. THEY ARE THE CULTURAL RIGHTS OF OUR CITY. >> NO QUESTION. LET'S GO BACK A BIT. YOU WERE ON THE COUNSEL DURING THE RECESSION A DECADE AGO. IT WAS TOUGH AT THAT TIME. HOW DO YOU BRING THAT EXPERIENCE INTO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH NOW COME A BUDGET SHORTFALL MAYBE 20 OR $30 MILLION. >> YES. I THOUGHT I LIVED THROUGH THE ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME RECESSION. OBVIOUSLY NOT. WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO RIGHT NOW IS MANAGE OUR COUNSEL EXPECTATIONS. WE HAVE A LOT OF NEW COUNSELORS. YOUNG. THEY CAME HERE WITH BIG IDEAS AND WANTED TO DO GREAT THINGS AND WE STILL WANT TO BUT THE FACT IS WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CUT 20-$30 MILLION TO MEET OUR BUDGET PROJECTIONS AND BRING FORWARD A BALANCED BUDGET. >> WHAT HAS TO GO ON THE BACK BURNER? >> WE ALREADY HAD ONE CASUALTY. THAT WAS OUR PARKS BOND. WE WERE GOING TO ASK VOTERS TO APPROVE 100-$150 MILLION TO SUPPORT OUR PARKS. WE'RE PUTTING THAT ON HOLD UNTIL NEXT YEAR AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE HIRING NONESSENTIAL PERSONNEL. THERE IS A HIRING FREEZE ON. WE ARE REVIEWING NONESSENTIAL CONTRACTS AND WE TAKE THAT VERY SERIOUSLY BECAUSE THOSE ARE CONTRACTS THAT OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY IS ALSO DEPENDING ON FOR THEIR FUTURES SO WE REALLY HAVE TO LOOK CAREFULLY AT THAT AMONG STAFF. SO THOSE ARE THE INITIAL THINGS. WE ARE ASKING EVERYBODY TO SUBMIT PLANS FOR CUTS IN THEIR DEPARTMENT. >> WE HAVE LESS THAN A MINUTE LEFT HERE. I FEEL CONFIDENT YOU HAVE WATCHED WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED TODAY THAT WE THINK THE GOVERNOR IS GOING TO DO TOMORROW AS HE BEGINS TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF HOW TO BEGIN TO EASE RESTRICTIONS, WHAT IS GOING TO TAKE. ARE YOU IN AGREEMENT WITH HIS THINKING? >> I THINK THE GOVERNOR HAS DONE A GREAT JOB MANAGING US THROUGH ALL THIS. HE HAS BEEN VERY CONFIDENT AND CALM AND DELIBERATE AND HE HAS GREAT ADVICE FOR MANDY AND HER DEPARTMENT. I 100% SUPPORT WHERE HE IS HEADING WITH THIS AND I THINK THE BIGGEST MISTAKE WE COULD MAKE IS OPENING TOO SOON AND HAVING ANOTHER SURGE. WE NEED TO DEPEND ON TESTING

I'm meteorologist, Kat Campbell in the wr a severe weather center, a turbulent week ahead with more storm threats on the horizon, severe weather threats, a level two risk Wednesday and Thursday because of that these days and nicer wr weather alert days. If we take a look at our cold front, it's still well to the west. But as it gets closer to us, we're going to have more forcing for storms to develop and a ripe atmosphere for those storms to intensify, damaging wind gusts and hail are the main concerns though an isolated tornado will be possible. Storms most likely Wednesday night overnight into early Thursday and there could be another chance later Thursday, depending on how that Wednesday night round evolved. So let's first talk about the Wednesday a few hit or miss storms possible pretty much anywhere during the afternoon, but the main, so look like it would come overnight. So we're talking past midnight, likely through very early Thursday morning, 234, 5 a.m. And then the second round approaches from the west and depending on how that first round goes, that's going to determine the strength and the timing of the second round. This model in particular has a moving through a bit early in the day. We'll watch to see if that trend holds. Keep checking in for updates as we get closer to Thursday for Wednesday. It's hot, high temperatures in the upper eighties to lower nineties just isolated storm chances during the day. But that chance, of course, going up later at night, if we look at how hot it's been this spring, it's pretty remarkable. It feels more like summer than spring and it is the warmest spring to date on record at RDU. Temperatures are running 4.7 degrees normal, almost five degrees above normal. We do have a cold front coming and some below normal temperatures briefly return at the forecast Friday, 78. Still some scattered storms around Saturday. We dry out to start the weekend, 75 of the high and near 80 on Mother's Day. Mother's Day is trending drier on Sunday with more sunshine. And you, I notice the cooler weather this weekend when you get to the nighttime hours early in the morning lows dip back in the fifties. A much drier, less humid air returns for the weekend. That should last until early next week. But we still have to get through the turbulent weather first. The worst of it comes Wednesday and Thursday, Friday still some scattered storms. But at this point, those are less likely to be severe.
