Raleigh man tries to commit suicide in front of police
A Raleigh man tried to kill himself Thursday while accompanying police officers to a home as part of an investigation, police said Friday.
Posted — UpdatedThe unidentified man was at WakeMed. Police said his wound was initially thought not to be life-threatening, but his condition had worsened Friday.
The man wasn't in custody when he went with officers to the residence at 4716 Parr Vista Court, police said. The officers were then going to take him to a Raleigh Police Department office on Atlantic Avenue for questioning.
While at the residence, however, the man was able to grab a personal handgun and shoot himself in the head, police said. The shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. Thursday in the back yard of the home.
An officer used a Taser to try to prevent the suicide attempt, but no officers fired their guns during the incident, police said.
The shooting and the initial case police were looking into both remain under investigation.
