Raleigh man to spend more than 12 years in prison for bank robbery spree

— A Raleigh man was sentenced Wednesday to 151 months in federal prison for a series of bank robberies two years ago.

Jimmy Earl Godfrey, 48, pleaded guilty last year to robbing Capital Bank, at 8816 Six Forks Road, on Feb. 9, 2018; BB&T, at 6659 Falls of Neuse Road, on Feb. 15, 2018; and State Employee's Credit Union, at 2302 Bridgeport Drive, on Feb. 19, 2018.

Federal prosecutors said he obtained more than $13,100 in the three robberies.

He was arrested at a Hillsborough hotel a couple of weeks after the robberies.
