Raleigh man killed in Johnston County wreck

A Raleigh man was killed Monday afternoon in a crash on Shotwell Road, near Clayton, authorities said.

CLAYTON, N.C. — A Raleigh man was killed Monday afternoon in a crash on Shotwell Road, near Clayton, authorities said.

At about 3:45 p.m., a 2007 Toyota was traveling southbound on Shotwell Road, near U.S. Highway 70 and Old Garner Road, when it crossed the center lane and struck a tractor-trailer head on.

The driver of the Toyota, John Nicholas Evans, 57, of 1912 Carl Williamson Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tractor-trailer driver Sergio Montejano Vasques, 45, was not injured. The truck, owned by Turbo Transportation of Texas, was waiting to turn into the Smithfield Distribution Center when the crash happened, authorities said.

No charges have been filed.

The accident remained under investigation, authorities said.
