RALEIGH, N.C. — After just over an hour of deliberations Thursday, a Wake County jury found a man guilty of killing his girlfriend inside their Raleigh apartment last year.

Wedjunald Gemeille, 22, was arrested Jan. 20, 2013, in the death of Angel D. Irby, 29.

Shortly after the crime, according to a 911 recording, Gemeille then went to a nearby church asking for help, saying he assaulted Irby and thought she might be dead.

Gemeille's first-degree murder conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
