RALEIGH, N.C. — Think Michael Myers or Freddie Krueger are scary? How about waking up the morning after Halloween to find an unidentified man naked from the waist down in your home.

That's what happened to Jennifer Johnson early Monday. The Raleigh woman called 911 after waking up at about 4 a.m. to find the man at the bottom of the stairs inside her Miranda Drive home.

"I don’t know if I need an officer here or not. There is a strange man in the house, and I just kicked him out," Johnson told the 911 operator.

She said the man went into her garage, and she opened the door to let him out. After that, she didn't know where he went.

"I guess the door was unlocked," she told the 911 operator to explain how the man might have gotten inside. "It was Halloween, so, you know, in and out all night. I'll be locking the door from now on, that’s for damn sure. That was the scariest thing in my entire life."

Johnson said she found a sweatshirt and some other unfamiliar clothes in her house, telling the operator the man was "butt naked."

"I feel awful, and I – this has been not a good night," she said.

Johnson told WRAL News that the incident left her shaken, noting her 11-year-old daughter also was in the house.

"I feel like this neighborhood is so safe. I was just shocked,” she said of the Dominion Park neighborhood, off Leesville Road in northwest Raleigh.

Police on Monday charged 52-year-old Shawn Kelly Mayer with breaking and entering to terrorize or injure.
