RALEIGH, N.C. — You can still help a 9-year-old boy complete his mission of keeping the history of Pearl Harbor alive.

Harrison Johnson of Raleigh spent Memorial Day selling ice cream and raising awareness about his fundraising efforts.

Johnson wants to raise $100,000 to help maintain the Pearl Harbor memorial. As of Tuesday, Harrison has raised about $4,500.

His willingness to raise money was spurned by a visit to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, home of the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii.

"I was encouraged by my third-grade landmark project after reading, studying and writing about the Pearl Harbor Memorial," Johnson said. "My family actually said 'let's go!' so we went. When I got back it was all I could talk about."
