Raleigh, N.C. — The Aloft Hotel in Raleigh was included in a recent ranking of North Carolina's most pet-friendly hotels.
Editor's Note: This list was first published listing the five hotels in order of their proximity to the Triangle but has been updated to list the hotels in order of their tripswithpets.com ranking.
Tripswithpets.com evaluated pet fees, number and types of pets allowed, pet amenities and "overall pet-friendly vibe" at dozens of hotels across the state. Here are the top five finalists:
1. Atlantis Lodge at Atlantic Beach
This beachfront hotel welcomes both dogs and cats and has no weight limits or breed restrictions. Up to two pets are allowed per room, and pet lodge fees are $15 a night. The hotel offers pet sheets, cookies, poop scoops and bags and a dog park, and since Atlantic Beach us pet-friendly, dogs can romp and play in the sand with their owners then visit the pet washing station to clean up.
2. Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel in Charlotte
Located walking distance away from pet-friendly shops, breweries and restaurants in downtown Charlotte, pets of all sizes and breeds can stay at this hotel for free. Pet extras include plush pet-bed loaners in guest rooms, food, water bowls and concierge service. Like at the other hotels on this list, door hangers alert other hotel guests and staff that pets are in the room.
3. Kimpton Cardinal Hotel in Winston-Salem
This modern, southern hotel is inside Winston-Salem's historic R.J. Reynolds building, which was inspired by the Empire State Building. Pets can enjoy downtown's thriving arts scene, pet-friendly shops and outdoor restaurants with their owners. The hotel has no pet fees and no breed or weight restrictions, and any number and type of pets are welcome. Pet beds, pet bowls and mats, dog waste bags and “pet in room” door hangers are provided for pet guests.
4. DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville-Biltmore
Now pets can enjoy mountain hikes with you! This Asheville hotel is adjacent to Biltmore Village, which features many pet-friendly shops and restaurants. Nearby scenic trails, like the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville, offer fantastic views. Large dogs (up to 75 pounds) are welcome at the hotel and receive a treat at check-in, and there are plenty of special dog walking areas on the property.
5. Aloft Hotel, Raleigh
Located on Hillsborough Street across from the N.C. State Belltower, Aloft is known for its Animals R Fun (ARF) program, which allows dogs to stay at the hotel for free! Dogs are allowed in the Aloft lobby and are given a special bed, bowl, a bag of treats and complimentary toys for use during their stay. The hotel's concierge even provides owners with a list of dog-friendly things to do in the area.
