Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh father was arrested Friday, accused of crashing his car and trying to get away from an officer, all while his young son was in the car.
Police said Gary McDonald, 55, of 5812 Wintergreen Drive, hit a car parked in a lot at 2201 New Hope Church Road, then drove away.
The investigating officer stated in the arrest warrant that McDonald lied to him and then tried to pull away as he was being arrested.
Police stated in the warrant that the wreck placed his son at "a substantial risk of injury."
McDonald was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $1,500.
He served a year in prison between 1990 and 1991 for three driving while impaired convictions, state Department of Correction records show.
