The Raleigh Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance held the 41st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Wreath Laying Ceremony Friday morning at King’s namesake park in Raleigh. Local leaders and clergy members laid a wreath beside the statue of King to pay tribute to him as a symbol of solidarity.

The wreath laying was the first of several events honoring King, ahead of the federal Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday on Monday. Other planned events include an interfaith virtual prayer breakfast, food distribution for families in need, a musical celebration and panels discussing King’s teachings.
