RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh city officials are asking for the public's input on demolishing older homes that are replaced by newer and sometimes larger homes.

The city held an open house Tuesday to obtain feedback on what’s called “infill development.”

Critics of such developments say infill development hurts neighborhoods by reducing the amount of affordable housing in the community and limiting green space.

Raleigh's city administrators have launched a study to determine if more regulation of this type of development is needed.

Officials say 30 percent of the new residential permits they receive are requests for infill development.

City officials say the survey will provide them with valuable feedback.

"It's important to see if your regulations are working and they are addressing the aspects of the city that are bringing people here," said Christine Dargesa, a project manager for the city of Raleigh.

Once the study is complete, city council members will review the results and decide if current regulations should change.
