WAS A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER HIRED IN MAY OF 2021. SHE'S ALSO A CURRENT NC STATE STUDENT. >> TONIGHT, RALEIGH CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WERE ASKED TO ADDRESS VIOLENCE AND BOYS ON GLENWOOD SOUTH. NEWLY SWORN-IN COUNCIL MEMBERS. LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINT. WRAL'S JULIAN GRACE ATTENDED THAT MEETING. AND JULIAN, THEY DID DISCUSS SOME CHANGES MADE IN A POPULAR AREA. >> DEBORAH, THEY HAVEN'T RESIDENTS IN THIS COMMUNITY SAY THERE HAVE BEEN CHANGES ALONG GLENWOOD SOUTH HERE FOR STARTERS, THERE HAVE BEEN MORE LIGHTING AND MORE TRASH CANS LINED THE STREET HERE. ALSO, POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN DOING MORE PATROLS, BUT SOME RESIDENTS SAY THAT IS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THIS POPULAR NIGHTLIFE SPOT SAFE. SO WHAT RESIDENTS LIKE TO SEE SOME RESIDENTS SAY THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE A MORE POLICING AND IT DOESN'T STOP THERE. BEFORE WE GET INTO THOSE ADDITIONAL DETAILS. WE DO WANT TO TELL YOU THIS THAT THE RALEIGH POLICE CHIEF EVEN RECENTLY SAID THAT SHE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT ALARMING INCREASES OF VIOLENCE AND WEAPONS IN THE AREA. NOW, THEY HAVE ALSO BEEN REPEATED CALLS TO LOWER THE NOISE, VOLUME FROM THE BARS AND RESTAURANTS AND ON ANY GIVEN WEEKEND, THERE'S ABOUT 12,000 PEOPLE THAT CONVERGE ON GLENWOOD AVENUE NOW THERE HAVE BEEN ARRESTS, FIGHTS AND VANDALS. SOME PEOPLE HAVE EVEN SUGGESTED SHUTTING DOWN THE AREA. ONE RESIDENT DESCRIBED WHY HE DOESN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE WALKING NEAR GLENWOOD SOUTH. 10 YEARS AGO AND NEVER GAVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT ABOUT TO GO IN THE SOUTH LATER AT NIGHT. >> I DO NOW. SAFETY IS A CONCERN. THE CITY HAS LEFT THE AREA, GET LOUD AND OUT OF CONTROL. >> THAT RESIDENT SAID HE WAS GIVEN HIS VERY TRANS PARENT ASSESSMENT. SO WHAT IS BEING DONE? I'm meteorologist K Campbell in the wr a severe weather center. Another day of above normal temperatures as highs climbed into the low to mid eighties. The big difference, the humidity, I am sure you noticed it outside. It's feeling more humid. Dew points were in the upper sixties throughout much of the day. We're going to be in that humid category on the muggy meter through Wednesday and then perhaps actually climbing a bit Thursday ahead of a cold front before we see a huge crash, how humid it feels outside by the time we get to the weekend. So some good news there, the humidity, it's not going to last all the way through the summer. We've got a spring like break ahead for the weekend, but it's feeling like summer during the week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, highs are in the upper eighties to lower nineties with the high humidity and each day does come with a chance for some scattered thunderstorms. So let's talk about that chance. It looks like Tuesday. It's actually early in the morning that we may have the best chance of storms, very icy activity during the afternoon and then perhaps a brief uptick later in the evening. Once we get to Wednesday, this model in particular tends to be overdone two days in advance. But you get the point, some scattered storms develop late in the day. And then Thursday, we don't yet have a high resolution model of data available for. But given that we have this approaching cold front to help lift the air that provides the mechanism of the mechanism for storms to form in the first place. And then it's going to be so hot, so humid that we've got plenty of energy for those storms to strengthen and perhaps become severe. So we're thinking it'll be a bit more widespread. Thursday. There is a level one out of five threat for severe weather, Tuesday and Wednesday. So a low threat and then Thursday, we don't yet have which risk level will be under determined. However, we're in the area already highlighted to be placed under some kind of risk for Thursday forecast rainfall over the next five days, about half an inch to an inch of rain will be possible. Watering forecasts, you can see we've got a chance of storms in through Friday and then I think will be dry during the day. Saturday. There is a small chance of a shower thunderstorm this Saturday night into Sunday morning for Mother's Day. So of course, we'll keep an eye on that for you as you plan ahead for Mother's Day weekend during the week. It's feeling like summer, hot, humid storm chances each day. We've got changes in store for the weekend and lows could dip back down to 50 by Saturday morning.
