Raleigh chase ends with suspect crashing into pole
The state Highway Patrol temporarily closed a ramp from Interstate 440 West to Western Boulevard in Raleigh Friday night after a suspect led them on a chase and crashed into a utility pole.
Posted — UpdatedTroopers say Dean Burgess, of 1477 Huntdell Main Drive in Wendell, was driving recklessly and failed to pull over when they tried to stop him around 8:20 p.m. After about a 5-minute chase, he tried to get off the ramp too fast and crashed into the pole.
Burgess cut his head and had bumps and bruises but was expected to recover, troopers said.
The 34-year-old was charged with DWI, having an open container of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and felony speeding to elude arrest. He also has an outstanding warrant for fraud in Wake County.
He was being held at the Wake County jail Saturday under a $56,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
