RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh bakery is raising money for Ukrainian people in need.
Union Special is donating 100 percent of its sales of 50 chocolate babkas to the Save the Children's Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, which supports families and children affected by war.

Babkas are a popular baked item in Ukraine and other surrounding countries.

Union Special has two locations - one at 2409 Crabtree Blvd. in the newly renovated Gateway Plaza and another in downtown Raleigh at 401 Fayetteville St.

On Monday and Tuesday, 100 percent of cookies sold at its Fayetteville Street location will also go to the fund.

“We are donating money today and tomorrow to an effort called Save the Children, which has a crisis fund for children and families in Ukraine. But, we certainly do wear a little bit of our politics on our sleeve but this is apolitical and doesn’t take any sides or anything like that," Union Special owner Andrew Ullom said.

Ullom said they are also encouraging people to donate directly to the fund online via the Save the Children website.
