Raleigh approves Special Olympics at St. Aug's
The Raleigh City Council agreed Tuesday to bend the rules limiting events at the new stadium at St. Augustine's University so that the school can host the Special Olympics summer games.Posted — Updated
University neighbors objected to the construction of the North State Street stadium, raising concerns about parking and noise. In order to get permission for the $10 million, 2,500-seat project, the university agreed to host only 15 events per year and not to rent out the stadium to other groups.
The Special Olympics North Carolina asked the council to make an exception for its event, and the council granted that. The games are scheduled for June 1 through 3.
