RALEIGH, N.C. — The U.S. News & World Report has released its list of Best Places to Live in the U.S. for 2022-2023 and the Triangle is well-represented again.
The list ranks 'Raleigh and Durham' at No. 6 on the list. The report highlights the region's roots in research and technology bolstered by its hosting of world-renowned universities. The area checks other boxes for potential residents such as a blossoming job market and relative affordability compared to other metropolitan areas.

Cities were judged and given three scores among categories. Raleigh and Durham received an overall score of 6.7, earning a 6.8 for quality of life and a 7.1 for value. The outlet reviewed the 150 most populous metro areas to compile the list. The rankings are based on an analysis of public data and user opinions.

The spot is a drop down from the list released in 2021, when Raleigh and Durham was ranked second.

The top 5 included:

  • Huntsville, Alabama
  • Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Green Bay, Wisconsin
  • Boulder, Colorado
  • San Jose, California

Elsewhere in North Carolina, Charlotte was ranked 30th. Hickory was 31st.

In 2019, Raleigh was ranked the second-best place to live in the country by Livability.com.
Earlier this year, the Triangle drew headlines nationally when Apple picked the Triangle for a $1 billion campus and Google selected Durham for an engineering hub.
