RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina will be a safe haven from a treacherous storm moving across the country, but rain will keep the weekend soggy here.

Millions of Americans will be traveling this weekend, wrapping up Thanksgiving celebrations.

An icy storm was moving eastward into the Midwest Saturday and will continue to move to the Northeast by Sunday, threatening areas with snow, ice and flash-flooding.

One person in South Dakota died because of the storm, officials said. Two young children died in flash flooding in Arizona. A third child was also missing.

Weather conditions for Sunday

But temperatures in the Triangle will be too warm for any wintry weather, WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said.

Steady rain was expected to fall through Saturday evening. More rain was expected to move in late Saturday and early Sunday with some pockets of heavy downpours, Sheerwood said.

Rain will fall throughout most of Sunday morning but start clearing out during the afternoon.

Temperatures will be warmer, with a high of 62 degrees. Overnight lows will be in the 40s.

Skies will be mostly clear Monday, although temperatures will be chilly. Those going to the WRAL Tower Lighting should bundle up, as temperatures could be in the upper 30s. Rain gear won’t be needed, though.
