RALEIGH, N.C. — Rain was moving out of the Triangle on Wednesday morning, leaving behind soggy roads and cloudy skies.

Temperatures will warm up only slightly during the day, with a high of 45 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

Overnight they'll plunge below freezing, hitting a low of 27 degrees.

Thursday will see mostly clear skies, and highs will reach the mid-40s again.

A low-pressure system off the Gulf Coast will push moisture into central North Carolina, bringing another round of rain on Friday.

While sleet and freezing rain are possible Friday, it looks unlikely for the Triangle. When precipitation is likely to start in the mid-morning, it will be too warm for anything frozen, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Wintry weather is more likely in the North Carolina mountains, she said.

The Triangle could see half an inch to an inch of rain Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will be a little warmer, reaching the 50s.
