RALEIGH, N.C. — Scattered showers should wrap up Wednesday afternoon in the Triangle as a cold front moves through the area.

Showers were expected until after lunchtime, and skies should clear around 3 p.m. as rain moves northeast, WRAL meteorologist Zach Maloch said.

The Triangle will get about one-quarter to a half an inch of rain.

“We could definitely use some more rain,” WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. Many parts of North Carolina are in drought conditions.

Rainfall potential

Temperatures will reach 70 degrees on Wednesday, and the sun is expected to stay behind clouds most of the day.

Starting Thursday, temperatures "will get a lot more interesting," according to Gardner.

Thursday will be the coolest day of the week, with a high of only 62 degrees in Raleigh. According to Gardner, the low will drop to 38 degrees, and areas near the Virginia border could see frost.

Friday’s high will be 63 degrees, and highs warm back up to 70 on Saturday.

The weekend should feature plenty of sunshine, making it a beautiful fall weekend to get outside or go to the North Carolina State Fair, which opens Thursday.
